Where There Is Evil

by Sandra Brown

Synopsis

Sandra Brown was eight when her friend and neighbour, twelve-year-old Moira Anderson, disappeared from the small town of Coatbridge near Glasgow in 1957. Moira has never been seen since.

Twenty-seven years later, at a family funeral, Sandra’s estranged father confessed to her that he had been involved in the girl’s disappearance. Appalled and fascinated by his curious half confession, Sandra began to delve into the case and in so doing discovered that her father was an acknowledged child molester whose activities were known not just to everyone in Coatbridge but also to the police. The horrifying jigsaw she pieced together, along with the admission her father had made, ultimately convinced Sandra that he had indeed been responsible for Moira’s disappearance nearly fifty years ago. Where There Is Evil is the remarkable story of Sandra’s quest to unravel the mystery and see justice done.

Serial Victims?

Episode Summary

Part One:

It may be the oldest profession, but it is also one of the most deadly, was a statement in an article in the Glasgow Times, after the body of an eighth sex worker in Glasgow was found, after these very vulnerable women had been working in fear for their lives for over a decade. Was there a serial killer stalking and killing these women, or were there multiple murderers walking the streets of Glasgow?

Please Be Advised – This episode may contain content that some may find distressing. As always, we advise listener discretion. This episode it not suitable for anyone under the age of 13.

Listen on:

Episode Summary

Part Two:

By February 1998, seven Glasgow sex workers had been found dead, many brutally attacked, leaving Glasgow sex workers fearing for their lives. While police continued to state that there was nothing so far linking the deaths and that a serial killer was not at work, others had begun to wonder if this was in fact the case, with one newspaper posing the question “Which is worse: One killer on the loose or perhaps as many as seven, who thus far have gotten away with murder?”

In part two we tell you about a further three sex workers murders, being that of Jacqueline Gallagher, Tracy Wylde and Margo Lafferty, and whether their murder inquiries would lead to anyone being convicted.

Please Be Advised – This episode may contain content that some may find distressing. As always, we advise listener discretion. This episode it not suitable for anyone under the age of 13.

Episode Summary

Part Three:

In Part Three we tell you about the final sex worker to be murdered in Glasgow, and we find out if Jacqueline Gallagher finally receives justice when someone is arrested and charged with her murder.

Episode Summary

Part Four:

In the part four, the final part, of our serial victims episodes, for now, we tell you about a potential suspect in Tracey Wylde’s case, but was it the right man, and if she, along with the remaining unresolved/unsolved sex worker murders, would receive justice.

Please Be Advised – This episode may contain content that some may find distressing. As always, we advise listener discretion. This episode it not suitable for anyone under the age of 13.

Stop The Killing

by Katherine Schweit

Synopsis

There are many books on the subject of safety, but paper cannot protect you from the next shooter. The 2nd Edition of Stop the Killing can help you transform the way you take control of your safety. This book provides you the keys to take action on what you can do to stop the mass shooting crisis in America.

The book is written by the nation’s leading mass shooting expert and creator of the FBI’s Active Shooter Program, Katherine Schweit. Stop The Killing shares an insider look at what we’ve learned and failed to learn about protecting our places of commerce, houses of worship, businesses, and schools. Furthermore, the book demystifies the language around active shooters, mass killings, threat assessment teams, and more.

The readers will gain knowledge on the current status of mass shootings in America and be given definitions, statistics, and ultimately, a guide on how to be a part of the solution. Are you ready to become a mini-expert and save lives? Because you can.

You will hear sober advice gathered from those who have survived and responded to shootings at Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Aurora theater, Los Angeles International Airport, and more.

Katherine includes a preface exploring the 2021 Oxford High School shooting in Michigan, including the groundbreaking use of a domestic terrorism charge filed against the shooter and involuntary manslaughter charges filed against the shooter’s parents.

Do not be a victim of gun violence. Instead, be empowered with knowledge to replace your fear with actions you can take to keep you and your family safe.

The Forgotten Murder

by Brian Birt

Synopsis

On the 28th of August 2002, Brian Birt lost his much-loved son, Darren, aged just 22. Some 16 years on, this book tells the harrowing story of his continuing fight for justice, his tangible (and understandable) frustrations with the flawed Scottish legal system, and his determination to see his son’s murderers pay for their heinous crime. As he says, four lives were lost the day Darren died, not just his.

The Forgotten Murder – Justice for Darren isn’t just about a father’s unsurmountable grief and his family’s heartbreak, it’s also a moving memoir which begins with his earliest memories as a young boy in Glasgow. As the third eldest child (of eleven) of Bingo Annie (a protestant) and his father, The Fighting Irish, (a staunch Catholic) he has an eclectic mix of anecdotes and memories to share – which he does with honesty and relish.

He also touches on the devastation that mental health struggles have on families, and the barbaric way in which those struggling were dealt with in the latter half of the 20th century. What also makes this book such a thought-provoking and memorable read is the author’s presentation of his Catholic faith and his struggles with his relationship with God during some of the darkest times of his life.

This very candid and forthright insight into the author’s life will evoke a whole range of emotions for anyone who reads it, and it will linger in one’s mind for a long time after too.

Saima Ahmed

Saima Ahmed

Episode Summary

Following us attending CrimeCon in London, where we attended many sessions, including one called The Colour of Missing, where we heard Evidence Joel talk about her 19 year old son Richard Okorogheye going missing and her subsequent fight to get the police to recognise that Richard was in fact a high risk missing person, not a low risk as they had categorised it, led us to the case of Saima Ahmed, who went missing in August 2015. It appears that sadly Saima’s case very much mirrors Richard’s, indicating that there are still lessons that need to be learnt.
