In April 1981, 74-year-old Eliza Connelly was found dead in her home in a quiet residential area in Broughty Ferry in Dundee. She had 12 wounds to her head, two on her hands, fractured ribs, and blood was found everywhere from the floor to the ceiling. The initial assumption was murder, but with no evidence or witnesses, an accidental death theory was posed.

This week Dawn gets to sit back for this away episode, as Effie from the podcast Mums, Mysteries and Murder tells her about the Scottish Murderer, 20 year old Jason Downie, who, in November 2010, brutally murdered 16-year-old Chantelle Rowe, and her father Andrew and mother Rose at their house near Adelaide in Australia. What could have led Jason Downie to have so viciously murdered his friend’s girlfriend and her parents?

In 1959, teenagers James Denovan and Anthony Miller devised a scheme to rob homosexual men in Queen’s Park Recreation Ground in Glasgow. They exploited the fact that homosexuality was illegal, knowing their victims would be unlikely to report the crimes. This continued until April 1960, when one of their victims, John Cremin, was killed. Initially, his death was thought to be accidental, but a post-mortem revealed that John had been murdered.
