About

A bit about Scotland

Scotland was first settled over 12,000 years ago and settlers began building the first known permanent houses on Scottish soil around 9,500 years ago. [1] So, as you can imagine, there are many many years of murders to research and report on. Scotland’s landscapes are some of the most breath-taking in the world, from the humungous mountains in the Highlands to the golden beaches strewn from coast to coast and dense forest lined roads that weave around Scotland. However, just like anywhere else in the world, scratch a little below the surface and you will find some of the most evil of killers lurking. Join us as we dive into the not so nice side of Scotland and tell you about some well known and not so well known murders, some mysterious murders, some shocking murders… all things murderous.Welcome to Scottish Murders.

Nearly Cloudless Scotland, As Seen From the ISS

A wee bit about the host, Dawn

I was born and lived on the west coast of Scotland until I was 25.While I enjoy listening to true crime stories from around the world, I have an even greater interest in murders that took place in Scotland or to Scottish people.  This is how the Scottish Murders podcast came about. I believe that every murder victim deserves to be remembered and this podcast aims to shine a light specifically on Scottish murder victims. So, if you have an interest in learning more about murders dedicated to people from or living in Scotland, read by me or Cole, then this is the podcast for you.

A wee bit about the occasional co-host, Cole

Hey guys! My name is Cole, I am Dawn’s little sister and you know they say, the first pancake never turns out quite how you want it. We grew up in the highlands but I moved to England when I was seven with my mum. Don’t worry though we were reunited eventually and let me tell you we did not do well living together! I really love true crime I actually can’t fall asleep without listening to a true crime podcast, I really just can’t get enough... which may cause me some nightmares but I will take that over having to listen to my own thoughts any day! I really hope you all love our podcast and hopefully you will become part of our wee true crime family.

July’s Theme!

The theme for the month of July is Miscarriages of Justice! There will be one episode released each week, which will focus on victims of miscarriages of justice in Scotland. Included will be an update from Euan from the Miscarriage of Justice Organisation regarding Elaine Doyle's (an episode we covered in January 2022) convicted killer, John Docherty, as John Docherty is one of MOJO's clients who may have suffered a miscarriage of justice.

June’s Theme!

The theme for the month of June is Linked or Not Linked? The episodes will focus around many murders that may or may not have been committed by the same person. It is for the listener to decide. It will be a two part story, followed by a wee chat between Dawn and Eleanor Morton., Scottish Comedian Actor and Writer, where we not only talk about some of the murders that are covered in the previous two episodes, but also just have a general chit-chat. We hope you enjoy this three partner.

May’s Theme

The theme for the month of May is a special theme as it’s a listener request. Mhairi, who is currently residing in New Zealand/ Aotearoa, took the time to give Scottish Murders Podcast a wonderful review on Apple Podcasts, and Mhairi requested for Scottish Murders to cover more Dundee murders. And so, May’s theme will be Dundee murders.

Mhairi - Thank you so much for your lovely review. We hope we do justice to the murders carried out in Dundee that we have chosen to cover.

If you also would like to request a future episode, then please let us know by leaving a review or by filling in our Contact Form.

Update following Special Announcement

Following the Special Announcement on 28th February about Cole stepping back from doing the podcast as regularly, I can now give you a further wee update about the direction Scottish Murders will take for the rest of this year. From April, each month will be themed episodes, with April’s theme being Love Triangles. Another month’s theme this year will be serial killers victims, and I’ll be having a chat with a special guest in one of these episodes.

Also, as it will be Scottish Murders’ one year anniversary in July, that month will be an extra special theme, so stay tuned for more updates about this, and other themes coming this year from Scottish Murders.

Special Announcement – Upcoming Changes.

Hey Wee Ones. You may have noticed over the last few months that you have not been hearing as much from Cole as previously. Well, that’s because she’s decided to take a step back from doing the podcast as much. But don’t worry, she still loves the podcast and you listeners, and has said she will pop back now and again as a guest to cover the odd episode with me. So, to allow a wee reboot, March’s episodes will be previous Patreon episodes with Cole still participating in them, and then I’ll be back in April with a slightly new format. And speaking of guests, I’m hoping to be joined by some other special guests over the course of this year. That’s all for now, but I’ll share more with you towards the end of March as to what is in store for the rest of the year.

Come back here, or visit us on social media, for more information and updates.
